Saint John’s Corsicana Staff
 The Reverend Canon Edward R. Monk, SSC

Canon Monk has been the rector (pastor) of Saint John's since April 1, 2003.

Father Monk was born in Oak Cliff, Texas, and grew up in the Lewisville and Carollton areas of North Dallas (with a brief stint living in Hawaii).

Father Monk attended Baylor University, and was a Sesqucentennial Graduate, majoring in Reilgion, with a minor in classical languages. At Baylor, he also studied education and political science.

Father Monk attended Nashotah House Seminary in Delafield, Wisconson, and graduated in 1999 with the Master of Divinity Degree. During seminary, Father Monk assisted at Trinity Parish, in Wauwatosa, WI.

Father Monk was ordained deacon in November 1998, and priest in 1999 by The RIght Reverend Keith L. Ackerman, SSC, the 8th Bishop of the Diocese of Quincy (Illinois).

After graduation, Father Monk was called to be the Assistant for Christian Formation at Saint Paul's Cathedral in Peoria, IL. He began his duties on July 1, 1999.

In October 1999, the Bishop, Dean, and Cathedral Chapter appointed him a Canon Residentiary of the Cathedral, and at that time he swore the ancient oath of Canons. In the Diocese of Quincy, Father Monk served as the Vice-President of the Diocesan Council, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Chair of Youth and College Ministry.

In March 2003, Canon Monk was called to be the Rector of Saint Joh's, and he formally assumed his post on Palm Sunday.

In 2003, Bishop Ackerman appointed him as an honorary canon of the Diocese of Quincy, in recognition of his service to the Diocese.

In the Diocese of Dallas, Father Monk has served on the Standing Committee, including two years as President, on the Reconciliation Committee, as Chairman of the Ad Hoc Fellowship, and a deputy to General Convention.

Canon Monk is married to the former Virginia Newberry, and they have three children, Siler, Jonathan, and Catherine.
